Effect of madecassic acid on innate-adaptive immune response and cytokine gene expression in Labeo rohita against Argulus siamensis

Gunapathy Devi; Chellam Balasundaram; Ramasamy Harikrishnan*

Madecassic acid is a pentacyclic triterpenoid bioactive compound that possesses anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic properties altering lipid metabolism, blocking NF-κB activation in macrophages, and can regulate cancer cell line and several immune genes. This is the first study on the effect of madecassic acid on Labeo rohita by dietary feeding against argulosis caused by Argulus siamensis, a crustacean ecto-parasite.

Biodiesel from Sewage Sludge: An Alternative to Diesel

Sonica Sondhi*; Pawan Kumar*

Increasing urbanization and development in developing and developed countries lead to shortage of fossil fuel. This fuel crisis results in demanding alternatives which can combat the advantages of fuel. Biodiesel, a substitute for diesel, is in hue demand as it possesses the chemical properties similar to commercial diesel.

Bioinformatics Tools and Validation Methods for Immune Infiltrates in Tumor Microenvironments and Immunogenomics

Yuchen Liu; Li Wang; Hoi-Lam Ngan; Vivian Wai Yan Lui*

Recent advances in bioinformatics and experimental sciences have expanded researchers’ capability to study the interactions of genomic events in cancer with tumor microenvironments. These include a wide range of bioinformatics analyses or estimation of tumor immune cell infiltrates, immune activation or immune suppression activities.

Immune Privilege Signatures of Embryonic and Adult Stem Cells

Mohamed L Salem*; Brahim O Barnawi

Tissues homeostasis depends on the presence of healthy adult stem cells present in bone marrow, blood or organs. Failure of this homeostasis due to pathological insults results in tissue dysfunction and diseases. Given the pluripotent and multi-potent features of embryonic and adult stem cells, respectively, they have been utilized for replacement and regenerative medicine. Additionally, the immune regulatory features possessed by adult stem cells including Hematopoietic Stem Cells (HSCs) and Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) make them a potential therapeutic approach for several diseases.

Hints to Enhance your HTS Experiment and Obtain Meaningful Results

Lavin JL*

As a former part of a High-Throughput Sequencing (HTS) facility, different unexpected issues linked to weak experimental design regularly arise while processing samples/data from diverse research projects. Occasionally well-established/scientifically sound hypotheses fail to be tested because of a number of unexpected issues frequently neglected but essential to attain significant and reproducible results. In this chapter we are determined to draw the reader’s attention to some of those frequent mistakes which have been proved in the literature and/or in my experience, to interfere with the final result of the experiment, therefore, preventing its success even when the biological question is suitable and eligible to be tackled by the use of HTS technologies.
